German manufacturer Audi has announced Audi unite, a way for friends colleagues or neighbours to share the use of their car using an interactive app.
With the help of digital design house Kram/Weisshaar, Audi is hoping to give people a more economical way to use its cars. An app lets up to four drivers make car reservations, while a personalised beacon makes it possible for the vehicle to recognise each driver.
The app also communicates with the vehicle to show drivers the location of the car and fuel levels. No doubt it is this same data that helps Audi offer a matching service, so that drivers can find other compatible people to share the vehicle with.
The full release of Audi unite comes after the software completed a successful testing phase in Stockholm, which, according to the manufacturer, was chosen because city’s culture for sharing resources.
Audi unite will be available across the company’s entire range, from the A1 to the A8 while taking in the Q and RS models.
