The Connected Car Expo, held in conjunction with the Los Angeles Auto Show, will feature a number of developments slated to take the connected car industry forward. The GENIVI Alliance and Magellan are among the vendors showcasing their latest products at the expo.

The GENIVI Alliance is putting on display its Remote Vehicle Interaction (RVI) open source software technology that is meant to aid automakers in the development of the next generation of connected features.

At the expo, the RVI is demonstrated on a Jaguar F-Type convertible that benefits from remote data logging, secure software over-the-air (SOTA) updating, and smartphone app control features such as climate control. Additionally, a 2016 Jaguar XJ will be showcased featuring the newest Linux-based infotainment system on the market.

Meanwhile, Magellan is showcasing its Off-Road Vehicle and SmartGPS Eco connected car navigation solutions that can be run on the dashboard.

Magellan's Off-Road Vehicle navigation solutions provide accurate 3D maps, over 44,000 vehicle trails and community generated trails, better driver safety and an improved user interface. The platform runs on the cloud and will be continually optimised via crowd-sourcing from the Magellan OHV user community.

The SmartGPS Eco involves a cloud platform that integrates automotive navigation, routing, content services, iOS and Android smartphone apps, and connected car platforms. The offering facilitates flexible content aggregation, personalization, and localised delivery targeting connected car solutions.

Magellan associate vice president of product management Stig Pedersen said: “Consumers now want to be connected wherever they go, and these solutions fill that need by making the connected car experience available to everyone on and off-road.”
