Israel-based technology company Mobileye and British automotive parts manufacturer Delphi Automotive are partnering to jointly develop a complete SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) Level 4/5-accredited automated driving solution. The partnership will see the development of a production-intent, end-to-end, fully-automated vehicle driving solution.

The new solution will have the functional safety and performance level for rapid integration into various vehicle platforms. The turnkey CSLP platform will be demonstrated in combined highway and urban driving at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show, Las Vegas. It is expected to be production ready in 2019.

The solution will be based on the companies' key technologies, including the EyeQ 4/5 System on a Chip (SoC) from Mobileye, with sensor signal processing, world view generation, fusion and Road Experience Management (REM) system. The SoC will be used to map and localise the vehicle in real-time.

Meanwhile, Delphi Automotive will provide its automated driving software algorithms acquired from Ottomatika. This will include motion and path planning features. The company will also provide its Multi-Domain Controller (MDC), with a complete radar, camera and LiDAR suite.

Teams from both the companies will work together to develop next-generation sensor fusion technology and human-like 'driving policy'. The module combines driving behavioural modelling from Ottomatika and deep reinforcement learning from Mobileye. New driving capabilities will be developed to negotiate driving with other human drivers and pedestrians in complex urban conditions.

Kevin Clark, Delphi president and chief executive officer, said: "This partnership will allow us to give our customers an increased level of automated capabilities faster and more cost effectively. The collective expertise of our two organisations will accelerate the creation of new approaches and capabilities that would likely not have been possible working alone. This is a win-win for both companies and our customers."
