PATEO, a provider of products and services for connected cars in China specialising in telematics and infotainment systems, has chosen Sierra Wireless’ AirPrime AR Series modules to provide cellular connectivity for its telematics units being deployed in automotive vehicles for the China market.
PATEO possesses a substantial share in the market for self-owned, joint venture and luxury brand markets in China. Delivery of Sierra Wireless’ automotive-grade AR Series embedded modules to PATEO was initiated in the first quarter of 2016 and the initial deployment of their telematics units is in Geely’s vehicle platforms. Geely is a Chinese automotive company with more than 30 vehicle models, a robust dealer presence in China, and global sales and service in more than 40 countries. Geely is also the owner of the Volvo Car Group.
Chris Ying, VP of PATEO connected cars, said: “Sierra Wireless provides us with a leading-edge automotive connectivity solution that is easily scalable across 2G, 3G, and 4G technologies.” Dan Schieler, SVP & GM of OEM Solutions for Sierra Wireless, said: “The AR Series modules with the Legato embedded software application platform provide an advanced automotive solution for next-generation vehicles.”
The Legato software is a Linux-based embedded platform formulated to streamline application development and enable automotive OEMs to develop new connected car services. While providing flexible hardware design, the AirPrime AR Series firmware has also been developed with future-proofing in mind. Customers can update device firmware over-the-air for a vast number of deployed devices with Sierra Wireless’ cloud-based platform.
